Times past

(our travels 16/10/12)
This is where we are tonight – John O’Groats.

This afternoon we arrived here.  I was really keen to get here as somewhere off this coast line, past these islands in the distance -

PA170311
my ancestors used to go fishing and whaling.  We would have liked to go to the Shetland Islands but it wont fit into our time frame so just to see the waters off the coast is good.
On the way I had a sample of these.

Very yummy.  That reminded me of when my sisters and I would go picking blackberries when we were young.

I remembered other chilly times when we needed to rug up.  (actually it is not as cold as it could  be – between 2 and 8 degrees C throughout the day.  Right now it is 3 degrees C outside.  But coming from sunny Queensland that is cold enough.)

Edit:  I forgot to include another pic.)
We have seen the most amazing hydrangea flowers - so big and colourful.  They remind me of my Grandparents, who had such large hydrangea bushes at the front of their house, and I was always amazed, when I was young, at seeing blue and pink flowers on the one bush.
